Chandravana Ashrama situated on the banks of river Cauvery at Srirangapatna a historical and holy place in Mandya district of Karnataka State. Srirangapatna is famous for Adi Sriranganatha Swamy Temple and many historical tourist places. Srirangapatna was ruled by Hoysala and Vijayanagara King and world famous Navaratri-Dasara was started in 16th C by Raja Wodeyar of Mysore king. Srirangapatna played a significant footprint in Independence movement. This history-rich town was the capital of warrior-kings Hyder Ali and his son Tippu Sulthan – A Tiger of Mysore. Later it was ruled by Wodeyar of Mysore dynasty. The Cauvery Rivermade Srirangapatna an Island. The presence of the Kaveri River is in itself considered auspicious and sanctify. The Paschima Vaahini of the river Cauvery basin at Srirangapatna is considered sacred place. The popular Bangara Doddi canal was constructed by Ranadheera Kanteerava Narasimharaja Wodeyar (1638-59) of Mysore dynasty for this Paschima Vaahini in the year 1646 is the World’s oldest continuously operative aqueduct. The famous Ranganthittu bird sanctuary has situated in the vicinity of Chandravana. The beautiful Chandravana lies between river and canal near Paschima Vaahini. Srirangapatna is also called Gouthama Kshetra which is situated on the other side of the river in Chandravana. The stone mantapa in the river is prevalently called as Gouthama Mantapa, where Saint Gouthama did the meditation. Chandravana has two deplorable condition temples named as Cheluvaraya Swamy and Eshwara or Chandramouleshwara was constructed by Mummudi Krishnaraja Wodeyar in the memorable of his father Kasa Chamaraja Wodeyar in the year 1769. ChandramouleshwaraSwamy Templewas renovated by Sri Sri Trinetra Mahanta Shivayogi Swamiji, Sri Durdundeshwara Mahanta Shivayogi Mutt of Bebi village in the year 2007.
